So what is NEW?
This year we thought we would try something new--but we need your help to make it work. We would like to start a student fund that will provide a nice prize package for our student competition as well as scholarships for students to travel to Fairhope for future conferences. So after a few discussions we decided to try a raffle--a different kind of raffle though--we are calling it the Infamous Share an Old but Favorite Book Raffle of 2012 at our Friday evening get-together.
Here is the concept: We all have them, those worn paperbacks (or hardcover) that we have read 5 maybe 10 times. Now they sit on our shelves year after year--waiting for us to read them again. We can‚t convince ourselves to cut loose of them because fact of the matter is--we love them.
What we would like you to do is go to your bookshelves--find 2 or 3 of these special books and share them with us. Bring them to the conference with you, release them into our custody Friday morning and by Friday evening we will find them a good home. The more people that participate by donating--the more prizes we will have to give away.
Here's the plan--Grad Student Extraordinaire Clair Stephens and her crew will collect all the books, sort through them, and wrap them up in nice little bundles. Throughout the day we will sell raffle tickets and later Friday evening we will raffle off our cherished books as well as other prizes that we are gathering.
We are also rounding up some additional prizes as well. If you would like to contribute something else (say left over gift cards from Christmas, your hot-off-the-press book, or something else writerly?) toward the raffle, please contact me or Jeff Newberry.

All proceeds from the raffle will go into a student account and will be used to help out our students in 2013.
